Who is Zara Cojocaru?

An all-around artist, Zara Cojocaru is a 22 year old creator and storyteller whose whole life is infused with the idea of story. Zara has experience with acting, music, playwriting, and film, and concentrates in both performance and production.  Zara’s artistic journey started in hometown Towson, Maryland, when Zara started participating in school theatre productions in elementary school. While attending Carver Center for the Arts and Technology for high school, Zara played the lead role of Theresa in Single Carrot Theatre’s production of Mr. Wolf by Rajiv Joseph (2019), at just 16 years old.

Zara continued their studies in theatre, and in 2025 received a BFA in Dramatic Arts with a minor in Environmental Studies from the New School University in Manhattan, New York. This inspired and culminated in Zara’s senior capstone – a staged reading of their original play Organs for Gems : an epic, emotional, ecofeminist play. Their multidisciplinary education helped Zara turn into a multi-hyphenate, self-proclaimed artist whose work knows no bounds.

While in New York City, Zara has acted at venues like The Tank NYC and Latea Theater as a part of the New York Theater Festival. While attending school, Zara also sound designed for multiple student led productions, played their original music live in cafes and hotels, co-designed and ran lights for a thesis performance at HERE Arts Center, acted in student films, written original plays, and even regularly busked in New York City’s subway stations and parks.

Since graduating, Zara has interned as a Scenic/Production Assistant for Clubbed Thumb Theater’s Summerworks Series (2025). Working at the wild project (theater) in the East Village, Zara assisted on the set of all three productions of the Summerwork Series – Business Ideas by Milo Cramer, Not Not Jane’s by Mara Nelson-Greenberg, and Cold War Choir Practice by Ro Reddick. Zara also involved themselves as a volunteer for Broadway Bares: Come Out, Come Out at NYC’s Hammerstein Ballroom in June 2025.
